Feeding The Right Wolf

January 16, 2017

I love my job! I had the most amazing experience today. A guy that I met on an online dating site and went out with a few times stopped by the store. I hadn't seen him in about 6 months. He told me that he had recently had some experiences that put him on a search for answers. He thought meditation might be a good addition to the support groups he was attending and lifestyle changes he was trying to make. I had been reading "Taking The Leap" by Pema Chodron just this morning and had really wanted to share it with someone....So we hunkered down on some cushions and I read him a little bit about "feeding the right wolf" and then we talked about life experience and pursuing spirituality for almost 2 hours! At times, he was on the verge of tears. It takes bravery to be that vulnerable. I can't believe that I am in a position to provide a safe space for people to just come in and be themselves. What a gift!

"To honestly face the pain in our lives and the problems in the world, let's start by looking compassionately and honestly at our own minds. We can become intimate with the mind of hatred, the mind that polarizes, the mind that makes somebody 'other' and bad and wrong. We come to know, unflinchingly, and with great kindness, the angry unforgiving, hostile wolf. Over time, that part of ourselves becomes very familiar, but we no longer feed it. Instead, we can make the choice to nurture openness, intelligence, and warmth." -Pema Chodron

May your day be brilliant on this day that we honor the great humanitarian, Martin Luther King Jr.!
